How to Write a Simple Author Bio

Writing an author bio is really important. It tells your readers (and anyone else who happens to come across your name) who you are and what you do. It's all about introducing yourself.

You're going to need at least two versions of your bio. A short one, and a long one. You can even do an extra short bio in case you need one that doesn't go over any short character limits. For the extra short one, make it approximately 25 words long. This amounts to around two sentences, unless they're really short sentences. The second one should be 50 words long. This one should be three sentences. Three sentences tends to be the sweet spot for bios, and this is the one you'll use in your books and any profiles that will let you use however many characters are in it.

Author bios are best written in third person. It gives it a more objective feel that isn't so intimate. First person is more likely to put readers off.

The first line usually includes the author name and where they live and/or come from geographically. One of the best things you can do is to read some author bios and get a feel for what they're like, though.

Some authors include other details, like their pets and hobbies. It's also useful to include any relevant degrees or accomplishments and to also include the titles of any other books you've written (as long as it's not a super long list.)
